Robert is a baritone who has been interested in singing since school days where a Gilbert and Sullivan opera was performed every year under the direction of George Logie-Smith. Since then he has sung solo roles in many places during his travels as a geologist. Robert studied at the Conservatorium of Music in Melbourne with Henry Portnoj in 1960-61 and later with Molly McGurk in Perth in 1975-76. He obtained his L.Mus., with distinction in 1981after completing his vocal studies with Professor Jan Delpratt at the Conservatorium in Brisbane He has sung principal roles in the Merry Widow and South Pacific while working in Mt Isa. He has been the guest artist for the Kalgoorlie Male Voice Choir in WA and also guest artist for the Orange Male Voice Choir at their Sydney Opera House debut in 1979. He has sung the bass role in Bach's Christmas Oratorio in Perth and the Messiah in Kalgoorlie.
Since moving to Queensland he has sung the Messiah and The Creation, for the Lismore CAE concerts. He has been guest artist for the Queensland Pops at their "Best of British" concert and for the St Lucia Orchestra. He also sang with the Queensland Lyric Opera chorus in productions of Fidelio and The Merry Widow and has made studio recordings for the ABC in Perth and Brisbane and for 4MBS in Brisbane. Since 2008 he has been invited to Victoria each year for the Ballarat Proms in September and has performed as soloist in many Queensland venues. Robert has made a number of CD recordings for his own interest. He has recorded a CD of Australian Folk Songs, a demonstration CD of his studio recordings, a CD of some of his favourite songs and a CD of vocal works from the extensive music archives of Lansell Taudevin.
